Sustainability and Renewable Energy Expert

Volkmar has more than 25 years of experience in management consulting, entrepreneurship and business development in Europe and the US, particularly in the IT and clean tech sectors.
He founded several start-ups in the energy and sustainability space and is a business model expert.
He holds an MBA and graduated with distinction with a BA in Economics and Human Resources from the University of Würzburg and Hawaii Pacific University. ​He has published several papers about green innovation and technology. He speaks German, English and French.

Dr. Erfan Ibrahim

Cyber Security Expert

Dr. Ibrahim's professional career spans over 30 years and includes hands-on experience in nuclear engineering, information technology, communications, networking, cybersecurity, smart grid and renewable energy.
During his 3-decade career Erfan has worked for Lawrence Livermore National Lab, UCLA, Pacific Bell, Jyra Research, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). At EPRI he led the Smart Meter and Cybersecurity R&D Programs during 2008 – 2011 for electric utility and high tech companies.
He is an expert in helping organizations align their digital technology goals with their strategic business goals.. His most current position was Center Director, Cyber-Physical Systems Security & Resilience at National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado.
Dr. Ibrahim  holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from University of California Berkeley

Dr. Rainer Brendle

Enterprise Architecture Expert

Dr. Rainer Brendle is a long term expert, engineer and designer of enterprise systems. Rainer spent more than 20 years helping  SAP to design and develop various SAP’s ERP enterprise architectures.
Before joining TowerPower, Inc. Rainer was Vice President and Technical fellow at SAP, Palo Alto.
Rainer holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Stuttgart in the field of solid-state physics, thermodynamics and quantum field theory..He has 25 granted patents in his name.

Alexander Alten-Lorenz

IoT Digital Platform Expert

Alexander is a technically proficient senior Software Architect and advanced software engineer with almost 25 years of experience in complex software design. He is a digital expert and drives digitalization across the society and industry. He is a well-known entrepreneur he loves to build innovative cutting edge technology to solve current and future challenges of mankind. He is reckoned as an IoT and Big Data expert  Alex has successfully built multiple concepts and systems in the US with Google and Cloudera. In Europe he was with Allianz SE, Scout24 and E.On in various executive roles. At E.On, one of Europe's biggest utility companies, he was responsible  for the digital development of Future Energy Management, BigData and Analytics Platforms.He also was the technology lead for Smart Home Energy Systems and Smart  Energy Building Systems.
He is a contributor to different Open Source projects, e.g. Apache Hadoop, OpenBSD or Linux. He tackles challenges directly and is appreciated as creative thinker and futurist. He has a passion for the advancement of technology and high ethical standards.

Ted Howard

Energy Policy and Planning Expert

As an expert in the Policy and Planning Division with the California Public Utilities Commission
(CPUC) for over six years, he was directly involved in developing policies for energy efficiency,
energy storage, and water use efficiency. He also created and led the CPUC Thought Leaders
program, which featured leading experts on clean energy and climate change.
The past dozen years have been focused on development of distributed energy resources, with
a specialization in California’s local clean energy resources. He has consulted for the Swiss,
Chinese, and Japanese governments on distributed energy resources, and most recently, served
a one-year term as the Vice Chair for Peninsula Clean Energy’s Citizens Advisory Committee. He
is devoted to the most efficient and effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by
Community Choice Energy organizations, and most specifically, Peninsula Clean Energy in San
Mateo County.
His academic experience includes a B.S. in Energy Economics from the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst, a M.S. in Energy Economics from Virginia Tech, and several courses
in distributed energy resources and smart grid from Stanford University and the University of
California at Berkeley.

Dr. Sakib Khan

Energy Storage Expert

Dr. Khan holds a BSc(HONS) in Chemistry (UK), and a PhD in hydrogen fuel cell technology (UK). He is located in Sandton, South Africa. He has over 19 years’ experience in the energy industry mainly in the emerging markets, and particularly throughout Africa. Skills include business development, business start-up, techno-economic modelling and management.
He has been an advisor to the South African government and was on the core planning team that developed the countries hydrogen and fuel cell strategy. He has also consulted with a wide array of companies and governments throughout Africa (and in Europe and US) in the area of energy provision and efficiency. This has included working with ICT and telecommunications companies in reducing OPEX associated with base station infrastructure. Dr Khan is currently also setting up Africa’s first fuel cell component manufacturing plant.
Dr Khan has a keen interest in utilizing emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IOT), crypto - currencies and drones to help solve some of the emerging world’s most pressing social, economic and energy challenges.
